The Bassics

As I sat in on a band's practice last night, I felt the need to share something.

Not too long ago, I had a bassist. As some things tend to do, it didn't pan out in the originally intended direction. However, there was one thing that I learned through the experience, that has stuck with me since, and that is this.

Basses are fucking sexy.

Before I met my bassist, I had never had any interest in the instrument. Guitarists, and at that point in time, especially drummers, were my thing. THEY were the ones I picked out in a song, the ones I couldn't take my eyes off on the stage.

This bassist changed things, and now there's no going back. There's just something irresistable about those deep notes, and the way their fingers play those four strings, it just gets me. He awakened in me this new and intense appreciation for the instrument.

And while things didn't go anywhere with my bassist, I still go to every show, he's still the one I can't seem to take my eyes off of as he plays. My ears find his part in every song, and it always brings me back to the time when he was MY bassist.
Then the song ends, and those deep tones fade away, as does my nostalgia.

But the melodies played on those four strings of a bass guitar will always resonate me in a way of their own.
